Lauren was the only senior from her team to be invited to play in the blue-gold senior game tonight. The teams consisted of girls from all over Delaware and she was put on the blue team. She was given the entire uniform, shorts, shirt and even socks, but she had no choice in what number she was. She was given #13 and even though the #15 girl didn't show up Lauren couldn't switch because the programs were already made up. Oh well, lucky 13 it is! They posed for a group picture before the game started.
A closer up look at her. I felt bad for the girls because they were looking into the sun. Doing their before game huddle. I have no idea why they were all looking but it worked for my picture!
For the first time in 4 years Lauren did not start. She looks thrilled to be sitting on the bench doesn't she?
She did get subbed into the game and played really well. She's playing with all the best players of Delaware so it was a little different from her high school games. These girls actually knew what they were doing.
She was given a break as they rotated players. At least she seems to be enjoying herself a little more now.
Smiling and enjoying the game, that's how the senior game should be.
That didn't keep her from playing hard though.
She had a beautiful run down the sideline to win the ball and an amazing pass to one of her teammates who then scored. That was by far the best play I saw all night and it came from my little soccer star! :)
Her coach came to watch as did one of her teammates (the one on the right) plus a former teammate (the one on the left.) The former teammate was a senior when Lauren was a freshman. I remember thinking that my poor little freshman daughter on the big bad varsity would get eaten alive but Colleen was sooo nice to her. It was nice to have people other than her parents to cheer her on during the game.
That now is officially the last high school game that Lauren will ever play. It's bittersweet. I don't have to worry about her hitting heads with anyone or any other soccer injuries but I'm going to really miss seeing her play. She's been playing since kindergarten! Hopefully she plays in college if all goes as it should.
